Erik has an MBA with a specialty in Strategic Planning from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. He is fluent in English and Norwegian. He resides with his family in Houston, Texas and together they enjoy skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Dr. Craig Robinson

Strategic Planning Principal

 

Dr Craig Robinson is Director of Digital Education, Senior Director of MBA Programmes and Associate Professor of Strategy at Edinburgh Business School. He oversees the delivery and development of all the School’s online distance learning programmes around the world. As part of this he leads the Edinburgh Business School MBA, one of the world’s successful and longest-running MBA programmes with around 8,500 students studying online in 166 countries.

 

Craig is a member of the Strategy and Enterprise group where he is the Global Course Leader for C11SH Strategic Change for MSc students and H11SD Developing and Executing Strategy MBA capstone course. Craig’s research is centred round environmental scanning, interpretation and response behaviours in individuals and their relationship to learning and capabilities in organisations. He is interested in the interplay between organisational process-based factors, individual behaviours and cognitive processes and how the changing role of technology in both scanning and analysis is affecting strategy process and outcomes. 

 

Craig supervises doctoral students in the area of strategic management and change, with recent completions in areas such as international joint ventures and the adoption of agile management practices in large organisations.

BACKGROUND
Craig has been running strategy and executive development courses on postgraduate programmes and for external clients since joining Edinburgh Business School in 2007. He has taught MBA and executive students in private and public sector organisations in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Craig has also been an external lecturer at MODUL University Vienna since 2018. 

 

Craig is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Certified Management and Business Educator and a member of the Chartered Association of Business Schools International Committee. Craig was the first member of academic staff at Heriot-Watt University’s Malaysia Campus and spent most of 2013 there as head of Edinburgh Business School Malaysia. Prior to becoming an academic, Craig spent a number of years in operations management roles for McDonald’s UK after joining their graduate scheme.

 

Craig is also an expert in digital education, with recent conference presentations on online pedagogy, and invited speaker engagements in 2020 for the British Academy of Management on the future of online and multi-mode education and PTI International Education on Teaching Business and Economics Through the Lens of Covid-19 webinar.
